Sonia Souza joined Astex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2021 as the Vice President of Biostatistics and Data Management. Her wide industry experience encompasses the development of drugs, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic devices, with expertise in trial design, data acquisition and management, and statistical analysis.  She has successful lead the end-to-end biostatistics and data management strategy for multiple clinical areas, including for oncology, diabetes, cardiovascular, and rare diseases.  Her most commercially successful pharmaceutical products to date have been Cialis daily dose, for erectile dysfunction, Recothrom to aid hemostasis during surgery, Andexxa a reversal of anticoagulation, and Tavalisse for ITP. On the device front, her most success products have been EmboGuide, to guide the detection and treatment of tumors and vessel feeders to multiple types of solid tumors, Allura Xper system, HIFU for fibroid treatment, and IntelliSite Digital Pathology.  Dr. Souza is a pioneer in the use of Electronic Data Capture systems to improve the efficiency of clinical trials. Dr. Souza earned a PhD from the University of Florida.
