Despite their medical importance, structural studies of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are technically challenging due to their dynamic nature and inherent instability.

Recent advances in cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) have the potential to address the major technological gap in generation of high-resolution membrane protein structure. This has led to a renaissance in approaches for membrane protein structure determination, paving the way for structure-assisted drug design and development.

This is a joint postdoc project between Astex and Monash University aimed towards exploration of new technologies that can support membrane protein biochemistry and structural analysis by CryoEM to obtain high-resolution structural data that is required to facilitate structure-based drug design.
